Terms of Use

These terms ("Terms") govern your use of the Melo app and website (together, the "Service"), operated by Stephan Kop ("we", "us"). By installing or using Melo, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. Your account
You need an account to use Melo. Keep your sign-in credentials secure. You're responsible for activity on your account. You must be at least 13 years old to use Melo.
2. License to use Melo
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Melo on devices you own, for non-commercial personal use, subject to these Terms and Apple's standard end-user-license agreement for App Store apps.
3. Subscriptions and free trial
- Melo offers a free tier and an optional paid subscription, "Melo Plus," with weekly and yearly options.
- A 7-day free trial may be offered the first time you start a subscription. At the end of the trial, the subscription auto-renews at the price shown at purchase, charged to your Apple ID.
- Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You can manage and cancel your subscription at any time in your iOS Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
- Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with Apple's policies; we generally cannot issue refunds directly.
4. Your content
You own the journal entries, photos, and other content you create in Melo ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited license to store and process Your Content on our servers and through our service providers for the sole purpose of providing the Service to you (including generating the audio tracks from your entries).
We do not use Your Content to train models, sell it, or share it with anyone other than the providers needed to run the Service, as described in our Privacy Policy.
5. Generated audio
The audio tracks Melo generates from your entries are for your personal use. You may listen, save, and share them privately. You may not use them as backing tracks for commercial content (advertising, paid music releases, etc.) without our written permission.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service in a way that violates any law, infringes another person's rights, or harms others.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code, except where law expressly permits.
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, or probe the Service or our infrastructure.
- Use the Service to generate or store content that is illegal, harassing, or sexually explicit involving minors.
7. Termination
You can stop using Melo and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms. On termination, your account and entries are deleted in line with our Privacy Policy.
8. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is." We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the generated audio will meet any particular expectation. Melo is a journaling tool — it is not medical, psychological, or therapeutic advice.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
10. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Disputes will be heard in the competent courts of the Netherlands, unless mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence say otherwise.
